Jody

I stopped in at what I thought was a restaurant but turned out to be a Hotel/bar where I saw a bunch of motorcycles parked. I walked up and everyone introduced themselves and wanted to know where I came from. I was hungry so I told them that I was going across the street and get something to eat. A few minutes later this great big Kiwi all dressed in leather comes over and hands me a slip of paper with his name and addres/phone number on it and said that if I came through Winchester, stop by and visit or stay the night and eat. That was sure nice and I thanked him. After I had gone through that museum with the old farmer it was getting a little late but when I went through Winchester I thought I would stop by and say hello to Jody but I figured I had plenty of time to roll on down to the next town where I was sure I could find a hostel for the night. As it turns out he had me stay and I got to meet some of his friends as well as sit down to a real backyard bar-b-q and visit late in the evening. Jody is a light engineer for the movie industry here in New Z and has worked on almost everything that has been produced here in the last years. I like the welcome these engines have at his front door.

His bike is a Triumph and that is what he as ridden most of his life.

He is 1/16th Maori  and damn proud of it. The other 15/16ths are Scottish and damn proud of it.

The group of guy that he was riding with were over at a town on the west coast where they were having a motorcycle event put on each year by the Magpies. He might be a Magpie…. Yeah, I think he is.

this was one of the events that they had. It is called unicycle races. Those are very high power cycles that the guys bold skid onto and race for a quarter mile.

His wife (darn if I remember her name) has a business of making tee shirts, embroidery and such. She has done here all the movies that Jody has been working on over the years. The house is full of props from a lot of movies.

Her shop

He worked on the Fastest Indian movie. Yeah, he makes friends where ever he goes I think.

Pig farmer feeding.

Sheep wagons down here too.

Did I mention that with all the dairy that they use real cream when they make ice cream? Oh, yeah, the good stuff for sure. First time I have ever had an apricot filled ice cream.

this is the slash from the logging operation. Doesn’t look like it helps the erosion problem does it. I wonder how they get this done on such steep hillsides.

I hope I get to see them doing this logging someplace. It just want to see how they get the logs off the hills. Must be with cables? It sure looks like they just go straight up and down. The erosion must be terrific.
