Dogfunk

I saw this bumper sticker on a car ahead of me and snapped a quick photo. Not sure just WHY, just felt I needed to. It sure feels like dogfunk today.

We had such a nice ride up the West coast and made it to Nelson and found a really nice quiet hostel called the Footprints which is just off the beach south of town. We got a nice sunny room and the weather had been just grand for the West coast trip and it looked like smooth sailing and great weather for our ride and travels home. I was able to sell my Kiwi dog to a guy that was buying it for a friend that is coming to visit from Alaska, and is a BMW R rider. This was just going to be great, having ridden the bike and had such a fine time on it and would now be able to pass it on to another traveler who I am sure would like this little Kiwi dog as much as I had.

Last night I got up to pee and just happened to look out the window to check on the Kiwi dog in the moonlight. I had it parked behind the Hostel, off the street where it could not be seen and felt it was very safe. Well, I could almost not believe my eyes, when it was not there!! Holy shit, someone had stolen my bike!!. This was three o’clock in the morning and I woke the owners of the Hostel up and called the Police. I really have doubts that they will do anything, but I guess they have been lucky before to crack a crime. I am not going to hold my breath. We will just catch a bus to Picton and ferry across (without the bike which I paid for). Sheila will fly out of Wellington and I will catch the bus for Auckland and fly home form there.

What a bummer for this to happen after having such a wonderful time here in Kiwi land. This sure is not something I would have thought possible from all the folks I have met here, but there evidently are some bad ones here too. It doesn’t change my mind about recommending everyone to come here for your holiday, as it is one of the best places on earth, or at least from what I have seen so far.

Cheers (but not for me today), Rx
