New Earth Ship
I stopped in at Scott Elders store (Great Grains) in town to pickup a fresh batch of my favorite drug, licorice from Finland. He told me about the new house he was having built up on the high bluff overlooking the Yellowstone River, next to Tuckers place. He told me it was ok if I wanted to go up and check it out and take my camera. The architect and his crew showed up yesterday with a trailer and unloaded a huge pile of gear. This morning, they started working. It was like a bunch of worker bees in action. They hired a backhoe and he was busy too moving dirt/sand where needed. Scott and Tucker had gone down and seen these Earthships down in New Mexico and both think that they will be the perfect house here. Scott hired them to come up and build his while Tucker is building his own. Scott doesn’t have time to build it as he has a store to run.

Everyone was hard at work.

The guy with the gray hair is the architect. It is nice to see the big wigs out working eh? The guy in front was pounding sand into the tire with that 8 pound sledge at a furious pace. As Scott said, “there are a lot of six pack abs out there.”

This gal was a hard body one too. I didn’t look close enough to tell if she had six pack abs too…..but I bet she did…….J

Some of the piles of stuff they are going to be building with.

Soft drinks for the crew. There are nine of them that are the real crew and the others are interns that are paying to come up here and work on this job. They will learn how to build a home like this and maybe go home and build one for themselves.

stuff

Tools

more stuff, maybe wire for the solar system?

some sort of arch support?

These are the batteries for the solar electric system. The bags are filled with empty aluminum pop cans for building??

They are using redwood pieces.

Insulation boards

A stack of shop made doors and windows.

detail of window and doors.

not sure what this is.

solar hot water panels.

solar voltaic panels.

Tucker has set up his tent for a rest area for the crew.

This kid had an interesting tattoo.

This is about six hours of work on this job. WOW, can a bunch of young fit young people get a lot of work done in a short time with good direction. Each tire is pounded full of sand and that isn’t an easy job. All the sand has to be carried to the pounders and it looks like some of the ditches are hand dug as well.

A local saw mill guy showed up with the Vegas which are the logs that will be used for the ceiling support.

The guy with the camera is from Nova Scotia and is filming the project for the Discovery program on TV.

When the logs were being untied, Tucker suggested we move out of the way and get the hell out of there or we would be pressed into service. He always has such good ideas…….
