Beach

I got into Reggio and couldn’t find the darn ferry. I finally stopped at a gas station and one of the attendants gave me this note to go back the way I came and go ten kilometers and take the Boccetta exit….. worked like a charm. Ah, the simple things that make like easy eh?

at the ferry these guys showed up on Transalps. I have always like the TA’s but this bunch sure was not friendly.

a huge container ship that I thought we were going to hit.

we turned and then almost hit this little fuel tanker.

nobody on the beach yet, everyone is waiting for July and Auigust.

a very interesting place along side the road where I ate my lunch. Must have been some sort of smelter?

A nice place to get water and a lot of folks were stopping to fill their water bottles. Me too.

I stopped at the place below to get ice cream but they were out….. so I bought these cream filled things. Yummy….

I finally found a hotel that had wifi or any kind of internet service. It turned out to be cheap too at 30E with breakfast. Nice room and very quiet.

pears are filling out.

grapes used for overhead shade on the patio

the restaurant

The hotel clerk behind the bar making coffee and the only other guests. Maria who is a research scientist and her daughter. They all spoke very good English as did the Chef who cooked up so lovely meals for us.

they try to use local produced food for the restaurant.

Sheep cheese wheel.

this is how they grind the olives with this hand powered crushing wheel. Err in the olden days.

then they put the grindins in this hand press and gave it a squeeze to get the oil out.

looks like they made one of the old stones into a little fireplace.

This was the menu for supper. A pasta dish and then chicken with eggplant and other stuff all roasted. Yeah, these Italians have the good food down pat.

A little garden that they are starting here at the restaurant. The clerk gal comes from a farm and the cook likes growing his own veggies.

the old hand made tile roof next to the new tile roofs that they make now.

Lizards for Jack.

this is not normal street wear that I have seen so far. Maybe Rome?

Maria invited me to go to the beach with them for the day. Her little Fiat was a trip to ride in AND I got a feeling on how it is to drive over here. Scary for sure.

she knew of this little beach and it sure was nice.

some of her friends came down for part of the day and they had lunch.

I finally moved into the shade but too late. As I write this my legs are a little tingly from the burn.

on our way back to the hotel we passed these horsemen. They were on a ride over a couple of mountain passes and had to go this stretch of road I guess. I add some photos of the horses for my horse friends who might like to see what Italian horses look like and the ranch dogs...

some Sicilian motorcycle guys were there at the turnout and were somewhat friendly. Not all motorcycle guys are down here for sure. ALL the bikes are very clean and almost new. I think I am riding the only ‘old’ bike down here. What happened to all the old airheads and other brands too?

my hotel is about mid picture here.

on the way back we stopped at this Gelateria Artigianate… that is an ice cream artesian shop. Oh, now we are talking serious ice cream!!!

I had the Licorice and it was very good.

revolving tubs of delights.

a nice logo on a truck.

little Indians everywhere…. Greg must have been here…..

There is a special place near here that does artisian glass and this piece was absolutely fantastic. About $500 would have bought it.

I really love these old Citrons.

a new little bug of some sort. They can park in the tiny little spots.
