Indian Springs, London Bridge, hot rods, Quartzite, lost dog and best
of all, puppies!!!
We
left Beatty and made it to Tom’s place in Indian Springs where he had a big
pan of corn bread made. Ken brought along some chili with beans that Tom put
in a small Dutch oven that had three little legs. He put it on the electric
stove and proceeded to heat the chili. I was amazed as the bottom of the pot
was almost two inches from the burner but it heated up just fine. Tom says
that he uses it all the time that way and nothing gets stuck to the bottom of
the iron pot. Tom is a gourmet cook so I guess he must know. You learn
something interesting every day but ya gotta keep your eyes open.
We
made it a little past Searchlight and found a nice little road that went out
in the desert past the sound of the road. It is sure nice to be out in the
desert at night with a little moon to light the way.
The
next morning we took a quick look at the London Bridge. They brought the
bridge over in pieces and reconstructed it on a portion of Lake Havasu. It is
a very gross tourist trap but we walked down so Ken could get a picture of it.
We came across a small car show at a gas station. We just had to stop and look
over all the cool rods. We got a chance to meet several of the guys who built
or restored them and everyone was very friendly. they are a local club out of
Havasu and were there to take a photo with the station/hamburger stand in the
background. I gotta post a couple of the cars.
47
Stude built by a really cool black guy in two years out of junk. It is a
little rough but he is SO proud of it and it looks good on the road.
I
have to post this one for Uncle Mike who is a British car guy. I don’t
remember the year but it is a MG TD Mark II with left hand drive. They only
imported 43 of them and it has two more horsepower than the standard model. He
said they rate your taxes on HP in England and two HP made it extremely more
expensive to own. It was restored several years ago and had some wear on it
now. It really looked good and was driven for fun.
We
made it to Quartzite in the afternoon and looked around a little. I bought a
barbeque lighter for a buck. I tried it before I bought it and it worked fine.
After I got it home I used it twice and it broke. Dang, taken again!!!! We
went out north of town and camped in the High Jolly campground that I camped
in last year. This being a holiday weekend, it is jammed full. I did find a
small place in the very back where it is hard to get in a trailer or motor
home. The generators hummed until around eight that night keeping the
neighbors comfy with all the comforts of home.
aaaaaaa
It
was a warm afternoon in Quartzite and I headed out to make camp after a
somewhat exciting morning. Actually I guess it wasn’t that exciting to start
out with. Ken slept in the back of his pickup last night and somehow lost his
little watch cap that keeps his chrome dome warm. He said he slept OK but when
he got up in the morning he huddled over my camp stove while I made us hot
water for tea. I couldn’t help laughing as he looked like some sort of
homeless guy with his hooded sweatshirt. The dew was very heavy and everything
was covered in a layer of dew. I keep telling Ken that he needs WOOL to keep
him warm, but he likes to be cold and miserable… I wear a nice warm wool
sweater.

After Ken warmed up and we had breakfast I asked him to cut my hair. I brought
my electric clippers along knowing I was going to have to cut my beard as the
weather got warmer. Ken cut my hair last fall in Silver Peak and he did a
great job. I have an inverter I use for charging the computer and cell phone
so I just plugged the clippers in and away he sheared me.
We
headed into town to check it out. We stopped at one venue and Ken tied Wendy
between the vehicles with water, food and a nice rug to be on. We were gone
about a half hour or so. When we cam back, Wendy had chewed through the nylon
rope she was tied with and she was GONE!!! You have to imagine the scene
around there. Cars and huge motorhomes driving everywhere and right next to a
major road with construction project in progress. This was in a large parking
lot with cars and people going ever which way. Ken was immediately freaked out
and I was stunned. How in hell were we ever going to find her? Ken got one of
his two way radios and I took the other (we have been using them to talk to
each other on the road. Ken is a communications expert and he has all the neat
shit like that.) Ken went one way and I went the other. I stopped at a
Christian info, relaxation, rest station staffed by a couple that were really
nice (not surprising I guess, and asked if they had seen a dog wandering
around. They said that a fat lady had just come by and she said there was one
but we couldn’t find the fat lady. I went back near the pickup and asked
some folks there and they pointed to a large tent where they said someone had
a dog tied up that was on the loose. I went over there and sure enough there
was Wendy getting lots of pets for being lost. I radioed Ken and he was sure
glad to see her. It was almost a miracle to find her as Ken had walked right
by the tent where Wendy was. She had never been tied up before for any length
of time. Nothing beats a chain for tying up a dog.
We
cruised around some in the morning and Ken found a few things and I bought a
little propane cook stove with bottle that I gave to Ken so he could huddle
over his own damn fire. It is a nice little stove but I have my little all
fuel back packer stove that I am using that works amazingly well. It burns
almost any fuel and I bought it for my motorcycle travels.
We
ate lunch in a parking lot and I started looking for a place to take a nap.
There wasn’t any near so I told Ken I was going to drive around and find a
place and I would meet him in camp. Ken decided that he was going to take a
quick run down to Yuma and go across the border and look around in Mexico. So
we said good bye for now and went our separate ways. When he didn’t show up
after dark I called him on the cell phone and found he had decided to head
home. SO, I am on the road alone with no dog to pet. Hummm. I did however get
to play with a small pack of some sort of French puppies that a guy was
selling. The parents were there and he told me the name but I don’t
remember. I wasn’t impressed with the parents although they were friendly,
but their puppies were great. They were all in a free for all fight when I got
there and they were very cute. Too bad they will grow up to be some sort of
French dog.

My
neighbors just came back to their trailer and started up their gererator. It
is a loud one and somewhat irritating. I can see the blue glow through their
curtains and they like most of the other ‘big outfit’ campers are relaxing
with their TV’s just like home. It makes me wonder why they even bother
leaving home. Some of the big guys have the satellite dish out so they don’t
miss their favorite shows.
I’m
about ready to blow up that damn generator…………. It is a good
thing I didn’t bring a pistol with me.
