This is what the border looks like.
you can see a border guard
parked down the road. there is a guard every quarter mile or so. I talked with
one and I asked if they crossed it. he said that sometimes it is just a wave of
them crossing. I asked if they put a ladder up to get over and he said they just
climb it like a bunch of monkeys. There is about four feet of fine mesh screen
welded to the top. I don't see how they do it. Here is a detail of where some
one must have cut a hole and it was fixed.
It is made out of steel box and
must be twenty feet high. I don’t know how far it goes but it looks like it
goes for miles. I see in a newspaper article that they are asking residents for
information on the whereabouts of a suspected tunnel.
I went down to check out the
crossing and get some money converted to Peso’s. They gave me 11.05 peso to
the dollar. There are many exchange booths that have mostly Mexicans standing in
line to convert to dollars. It seems like I always gotta be different.
I am actually surprised at how
the people around here are such slobs. When they knock something off a shelf or
display in the store they just walk on and leave it to be stepped on. Even the
new stores are trashy already and they cant be but a year or so old. I guess I
am spoiled by Miles City where there is no litter and everyone seems to be
considerate of the next guy.
This is for my farmer friends…
I saw this field of sugar beets
being irrigated and had never seen this method done before.

The main canal supplies water to
the small ponds. In the bank of the pond leading to every other furrow is a 1 ½”
straight plastic pipe. There is a 2” wide stick that is positioned over the
end of that pipe that regulates the flow for that furrow. This is a no siphon
tube method and I guess it makes sense as it is waste land at the end of the
field that cant be planted as this area is needed to turn around the tractor and
equipment at the end of the field. I had never seen it before and thought I
would pass it on. They have irrigation down to a science here. with all the rain
they had recently they are not irrigating heavily but will crank up soon if it
stays dry.
If it gets muddy and it often
does when they are harvesting the vegetable fields, they need these Mudder
tractors.
opps, sorry about the wire in
the way.
I will cross the border in the
morning after I get to a post office and send off my winter clothes to home. Now
if you hear on the news that there is the biggest cold snap to ever hit Mexico,
you will know the reason. I totally repacked and tried to check for sure that
there isn’t a stray 22 shell or something in the car. I hear that 1 shell = 1
year in jail. Ouch!!!
Warning!!!
If I use a internet café in Mexico it may have viruses on it. So, do not
open any attachments that may come with the email. I learned this one the hard
way when Anna sent us an email with ‘Happy 99’ or something from an internet
café in Poland. Well, I figured it was from Anna and it would be OK. Wrong,
wrong, wrong. If I say in my email I have an attachment, then it would be ok to
open it. (I think) J
